The Gentlemen Is #1 on Netflix: Here’s How to Get the Look
With The Gentlemen back in the spotlight on Netflix, its particular take on British tailoring remains one of the series’ strongest style references. Now, Suit Direct has turned that aesthetic into a six-look limited collection with Ted Baker and Netflix.
The tailoring takes its cues from the country estates and aristocratic wardrobe of the series, but avoids simply reproducing traditional country clothing. Double-breasted jackets, wide peak lapels and modern fits give the silhouettes a sharper proportion, while puppytooth, rich tweed, velvet and deeper autumnal colours keep the collection firmly rooted in British tailoring.
There is plenty of texture, too, with wool-rich cloths alongside moleskin and corduroy trims. The effect is more considered than costume, making the pieces relevant beyond the screen — from autumn weddings and race days to formal evening dressing.
The more playful references are inside the jackets. Exclusive printed linings feature tigers, boxing gloves and a family crest, linking the tailoring to the show without turning the clothes into merchandise.
The collection also extends beyond tailoring. A dedicated pop-up at Selfridges on Oxford Street brings together the Ted Baker collection with Champion’s exclusive sportswear, inspired by the underground boxing club featured in The Gentlemen. It gives the collaboration two distinct sides: country-estate tailoring and the series’ more street-level sporting world.
The Ted Baker x The Gentlemen collection is available exclusively through Suit Direct online and at the dedicated Selfridges pop-up on Oxford Street.
