John Lewis Teams Up With clothsurgeon for a New Menswear Collection
John Lewis has teamed up with clothsurgeon founder and creative director Rav Matharu MBE on a 32-piece menswear collection that brings contemporary streetwear and Savile Row tailoring into the same wardrobe.
Launching on 8 October, the collection arrives as John Lewis reports a 17% increase in tailoring sales this year, signalling continued investment in a category that has become central to its menswear offering.
The range covers tailoring, outerwear, knitwear, jersey and accessories, with materials including Italian wool, Japanese selvedge denim, Portuguese jersey, brushed cashmere and leather. Several clothsurgeon bestsellers have been reworked for the collaboration, including its signature double-breasted blazer and tuxedo, alongside pieces that bring tailoring details to more casual silhouettes.
Among the standout pieces are an Italian wool-blend tuxedo, a leather utility jacket and a cobalt blue brushed cashmere crew-neck knit. Elsewhere, a checked bomber features clothsurgeon's signature kidney collar guard and welt pockets, while the knitwear incorporates custom detailing. Buttons, tapes and linings developed for clothsurgeon appear throughout.
Footwear is covered by three exclusive styles designed for clothsurgeon by British shoemaker Grenson: a soft-grain leather trainer, a Cuban-heel ankle boot and a pony-hair loafer. Accessories include ties, a pony-hair belt, a printed silk scarf and a baseball cap, with cobalt blue providing a recurring accent.
The proposition is a complete wardrobe rather than a standalone tailoring exercise, with the collection moving between formal dressing and everyday wear without losing its sartorial references. For John Lewis, the collaboration also brings an independent British menswear name with established tailoring credentials into its premium offer.
Prices start at £29 for ties and rise to £435 for an Italian wool blazer. The collection is available at five John Lewis stores and online at johnlewis.com.
