Slim d’Hermès: Faubourg of Dreams Lands in Men’s Horology

The latest edition of the Slim d’Hermès doesn’t just tell time—it tells a story. A cosmic one, at that. With its intricate craftsmanship, otherworldly visuals, and Paris-meets-the-galaxy imagination, the Slim d’Hermès Faubourg of Dreams is more than a watch—it’s a moment.

Originally launched in 2015 under the eye of Philippe Delhotal, Hermès' artistic director of Horlogerie, the Slim d’Hermèswas designed to distill time into its most refined expression. This latest chapter continues the house’s fascination with form, detail, and whimsy—only now the canvas is celestial.

Let’s talk dial. A floating universe rendered on aventurine glass and sapphire, it combines miniature painting with engraving, turning the watch face into a scene lifted from a surreal sci-fi dream. The inspiration? The Hermès silk scarf “Faubourg of Dreams.” London-based illustrator Stuart Patience reimagines the legendary 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré flagship as a spaceship, its signature Hermès icons—headphones, horseshoes, and even handbags—drifting in zero gravity. At the centre, a sculptural horse, realised in a metallic finish, adds a sense of anchored movement to the scene, simultaneously mythical and modern.

The aesthetic is matched by equally considered mechanics. Inside the ultra-slim 39.5mm white gold case beats the H1950 self-winding calibre—manufactured in-house and just 2.6mm thick. With a 48-hour power reserve, it keeps things running smoothly without the need for daily winding. The hours and minutes are indicated via baton-style hands that float cleanly over the painted cosmos—simple, clear, unfussy.

What sets the Slim d’Hermès apart, though, isn’t just its craftsmanship—it’s the way it bridges worlds. At a glance, it’s a modern watch that easily pairs with tailoring or your favourite unstructured knit. But look closer and you get something more poetic. Hermès has a habit of threading imagination into practicality, and this watch fits the mould—refined and fantastical in equal measure.

Limited to just 24 pieces, the Slim d’Hermès Faubourg of Dreams doesn’t aim for mass appeal. It’s designed for the collector who appreciates narrative as much as complication, who wants their watch to not only look sharp with a leather jacket or a dinner suit, but to quietly say: you’ve got taste, and you’re not afraid to be curious.

Finished with either a graphite or bleu abysse alligator strap—both crafted in keeping with the house’s leather heritage—it’s a piece that stays true to Hermès’ sartorial sensibility while reaching for the stars.
