Disney x Gustaf Westman Turns Mickey Mouse Into a Design Object

Disney has enlisted Swedish designer Gustaf Westman for a new collection spanning furniture, homeware, apparel and accessories, bringing Mickey Mouse and friends into the world of contemporary design.

Known for his chunky glassware, rounded furniture and bold use of colour, Westman applies his distinctive design language to nearly a century of Disney character iconography. The result ranges from recognisable character references to more discreet details drawn from Mickey Mouse and friends, with familiar silhouettes reworked through exaggerated proportions and sculptural forms.

The collection’s standout is the Mickey Tumbler (€110), a reworking of Westman’s signature Chunky Tumbler. Mickey’s red, yellow and black colour palette is built into the design, while two black ears complete the silhouette. The Mickey Mouse Cup (€68), rendered in black ceramic, takes a more restrained approach. At the other end of the scale, the Mickey Mouse Sofa (€9,250) translates the character’s recognisable features into a black leather, made-to-order furniture piece.

Westman visited Disneyland Paris before developing the collection, using the experience and his longstanding appreciation of Disney as inspiration. The collaboration brings together two visual languages: Disney’s instantly identifiable characters and the Swedish designer’s preference for playful, oversized shapes.

The campaign was photographed at Disneyland Paris, with Westman styled by Harry Lambert.

The collection will be previewed through free-to-attend pop-ups in Paris from 30 October to 1 November, Tokyo from 6 to 8 November, and New York from 13 to 15 November. Selected pieces will be available to shop at the events ahead of the global online launch, with a selection also sold at Disneyland Paris.

The full Disney x Gustaf Westman collection launches online on 15 November at gustafwestman.com, with availability through Beams in Japan.
