IWC Gives the Ingenieur Automatic 35 a Fresh Summer Update

Luxury sports watches rarely need loud reinvention. The strongest designs evolve through subtle shifts, and IWC Schaffhausen's latest Ingenieur Automatic 35 proves exactly that. The newest addition to the collection arrives with a dial colour simply called Pool—a crisp aquatic blue that brings a fresh dimension to one of modern watchmaking's most considered designs.

The launch continues IWC's revival of Gérald Genta's original 1976 Ingenieur SL, a watch that helped define the integrated-bracelet sports watch decades before the category became today's obsession. Reintroduced in 2023 with the Ingenieur Automatic 40, the collection has steadily expanded, with the more compact 35mm version broadening its appeal without compromising the integrity of Genta's design.

The new reference IW324902 keeps everything that has made the Ingenieur Automatic 35 such a compelling proposition. The stainless steel case measures 35mm and is paired with the integrated bracelet that flows seamlessly into the case, delivering exceptional comfort while preserving the clean geometry that defines the collection. The signature bezel remains secured by five functional screws, while the textured Grid dial retains its distinctive pattern of finely engraved squares and lines.

It's the new Pool dial that changes the conversation. Rather than chasing the louder turquoise shades currently dominating summer releases, IWC has opted for something more restrained. The cool blue surface catches changing light exceptionally well, allowing the alternating satin-brushed and polished finishing across the case and bracelet to do much of the talking. Rhodium-plated hands and applied Super-LumiNova-filled markers provide sharp contrast without interrupting the dial's calm aesthetic.

Turn the watch over and a sapphire caseback reveals the automatic Calibre 47110, finished with Geneva stripes, circular graining and a gold-plated oscillating weight. Offering a 42-hour power reserve, it reinforces that the Ingenieur remains as much about engineering as it is design.

With the addition of Pool, the Ingenieur Automatic 35 collection now spans six references, ranging from understated stainless steel models to an 18-carat 5N gold edition and diamond-set variations. At £8,900, this latest release feels like the collection's most effortless expression yet—proof that sometimes a single colour is enough to make an icon feel entirely new.
