Wes Anderson Reimagines the Writing Tool for Montblanc’s Latest Limited Edition

2 min read

It was only a matter of time before Wes Anderson, the auteur of symmetry and nostalgia, turned his distinctive eye to the world of fine writing. The result: the Montblanc “SCHREIBERLING” – a compact, impeccably crafted fountain pen that channels Anderson’s singular aesthetic and Montblanc’s heritage of craftsmanship.

The collaboration marks Anderson’s latest encounter with the Maison. He previously directed the short film 100 Years of Meisterstück to celebrate the centenary of Montblanc’s most iconic pen. That film teased a mysterious new object – which we now know as the SCHREIBERLING, a pocket-sized writing instrument rooted in the brand’s early 20th-century “baby” pens.

The design language will be immediately familiar to Anderson fans. Finished in high-gloss lacquer, the pen’s bright green and yellow palette is unmistakably playful, while the coral-coloured top subtly nods to an archival Montblanc classic. It’s a miniature piece of film set design in your pocket – with function and flair in equal measure.

But this isn’t just set dressing. The SCHREIBERLING is every inch a tool of precision. Platinum-coated fittings and Montblanc’s hand-crafted nib are paired with a nod to the director’s love of the analog: a tin box presentation case inspired by the utility boxes often glimpsed in his films, complete with a ruler, notebook, and green ink cartridges.

Montblanc is limiting the release to just 1,969 pieces – a quiet reference to Anderson’s birth year – underscoring the exclusivity and collectability of the collaboration.

In a culture increasingly ruled by keyboards and screens, the SCHREIBERLING makes a case for the handwritten word as an act of elegance and intention. For those who obsess over detail and value narrative, this pen offers both.

Available globally from June 2025 at Montblanc boutiques and online.
