Breitling’s Superocean Heritage Gets a Stylish Update - with Cutler & Gross in Tow

3 min read

For those who prefer their sea watches served with a side of sun-drenched refinement, Breitling’s refreshed Superocean Heritage delivers with precision. First introduced in 1957, the Superocean stood apart for its clean lines and elegant stance. Now, it’s back—leaner, smarter, and sharper than ever.

This latest revamp marks the model’s first major update since 2017. Aesthetically, it honours its vintage DNA while making a confident push into modernity. New case sizes—ranging from 36 mm to 44 mm—offer something for every wrist, while the debut of the B31 movement introduces Breitling’s first exclusive three-hand manufacture calibre. The 42 mm chronograph edition features the brand’s flagship Caliber 01, known for its high performance and reliability.

Design-wise, expect a tighter colour palette—black, blue, and green—each paired with a matching ceramic-inlayed bezel that ups the durability factor. Thinner, integrated mesh-metal and mesh-rubber bracelets are matched with folding clasps that sit seamlessly on the wrist, keeping the overall profile sleek.

There’s refinement in the details, too. From tone-on-tone subdials to the repositioned date window at six o’clock, the layout feels balanced and intentional. Distinctive spear and arrow hands, combined with pointed indices, continue to deliver the at-a-glance clarity the original Superocean was known for.

But this isn’t just about watches. Breitling has also partnered with British eyewear stalwart Cutler and Gross for a capsule of sunglasses that echo the spirit—and design cues—of the updated Superocean Heritage.

The Breitling Eyewear by Cutler and Gross collection includes four handcrafted styles, each limited to just 500 pairs. The temple tips are lacquer-filled, echoing the arrow hand of the watch; Milanese-engraved core wires mirror the mesh bracelet. Frames are crafted from metal, cellulose acetate, or a fusion of both, with select editions featuring 18k red-gold-plated accents and ZEISS LightPro® Technology lenses for a finishing touch that aligns with the watch’s high-spec appeal.

CEO Georges Kern sums it up neatly: “The Superocean Heritage now has the ideal companion—sleek Cutler and Gross sunglasses to match.” Whether you're oceanside or city-bound, it’s a pairing that brings the best of old-school craftsmanship into a contemporary summer frame.

The new Superocean Heritage timepieces and eyewear capsule will be available from June at select Breitling Boutiques and online, with wider availability through Cutler and Gross from August. Consider your summer accessorising officially sorted.
