Just in time for the holiday season, Farah has just launched its AW18 winter collection which is informed by a focus on pattern, colour, rhythm and works of art inspired and shaped by geometry.

Inspired by the work of industrial designer Hella Jongerius, who has mastered these essential elements of creativity, colour and texture are key to the new collection which features an intelligent juxtaposition of elements to create a sense of interest and something new.

Mirroring Jongerius’s meditations on texture, and in particular the unique fabrics she creates, the collection showcases a fresh approach to surface. Chevron patterns run horizontally or vertically across classic crew neck knitwear, while the Meern roll neck features an innovative knitted pattern. A bouclé fabric, containing slubs of yarn, is used for a jacket and a cardigan, bringing some of the designer’s crafted, individual touch. Corduroy is an essential winter fabric, and its rich appearance augments this textural mood.

Pattern brings individual character to the range. A key geometric camouflage design is directly inspired by woven artwork, and is interpreted in masterfully jacquard-knit sweaters and jersey T-shirts, while also revitalising classic shapes such as outerwear and shirting. Stripes provide an effective way to explore themes of colour and proportion. They already form a memorable element of classic rugby shirts and polos: this season’s versions from Farah are therefore grounded in familiar designs yet, with this considered, design-led approach, somehow look completely new.
