Drake’s x New Balance: A British Classic for the Fells and the City

3 min read

Drake’s and New Balance have teamed up to reimagine what a modern heritage sneaker could look like. The result? The Allerdale – a newly introduced silhouette from New Balance’s Made in UK range, given a Drake’s-style refresh that feels familiar, functional, and distinctly British.

The collaboration leans hard into craft. Built in Flimby, on the Cumbrian coast, the Allerdale pays homage to the region’s rich manufacturing legacy while elevating New Balance’s technical know-how with Drake’s signature aesthetic. Think country pursuit meets city street: brown leather and pigskin uppers, paracord-inspired laces in three colourways, Japanese nylon ripstop tongue, and a FuelCell-equipped cup sole. The result is a shoe that’s just as at home stomping through the Lake District as it is walking down Savile Row.

Michael Hill, Drake’s Creative Director, says it’s been a long-time ambition to work with New Balance. “I wanted to collaborate on a shoe that was equally at home on Savile Row or Canal Street as it was out and about in the countryside,” Hill explains. And the Allerdale delivers on that brief – the blend of green suede, rich brown leather, and jolts of orange detailing mirrors the kind of palette that has long defined the Drake’s wardrobe.

But this isn’t just about footwear. To accompany the launch of the Allerdale, the two brands have developed a capsule collection that extends their shared values of function, form and versatility. Key pieces include a waxed cotton version of Drake’s unstructured Games blazer and matching fatigue trousers, utility vests, ripstop cagoules, and hiking shorts – all designed to withstand the elements without losing their tailored edge. There are also knit ties, button-downs, graphic tees, and a tote bag crafted from the same selection of materials – essentially a portable summary of the whole collection.

It’s a lookbook built for movement, best shown in the campaign film featuring actor and comedian Charlie Cooper. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Lake District, Cooper puts the collection through its paces – scrambling hills, lounging lakeside, and looking completely at ease doing both.

Ultimately, what ties the collaboration together is a shared respect for detail and an understanding of how modern men dress today. Whether heading out of town or staying in it, the Allerdale – and its accompanying collection – is designed to go wherever you do, with style and intent.

The Drake’s x New Balance Allerdale will be available from Drake’s and via New Balance Made in UK now.
