Allbirds announce the world’s first zero carbon shoe

Allbirds has created the world’s first net zero carbon shoe, the M0.0NSHOT. Its 0.0 kg CO2e net carbon footprint (versus an industry average of 14 kg CO2e) was achieved by completely reimagining nearly every aspect of producing a shoe, without relying on a single carbon offset.

This breakthrough plants a flag for the footwear industry, and Allbirds is inviting others to follow in their net zero footsteps by open-sourcing the toolkit that took M0.0NSHOT to zero.

“Creating M0.0NSHOT — a net zero carbon shoe that is commercially viable and scalable — is the culmination of our entire back-catalog of work, which set the foundation for us to develop never-before-seen technologies and innovations. We believe it is our responsibility as a business to create products with little to no environmental impact to help consumers to shop guilt-free. That’s the future of the fashion industry, and the next moonshot we need to hit,” says Tim Brown, co-founder and co-CEO of Allbirds.

Allbirds is the first and only company to make a net zero carbon shoe commercially available. The journey to get there was just that, a journey — building upon all of the company's innovations since its founding. M0.0NSHOT uses materials and processes that capture more net carbon than is emitted — from the development of materials to the end of the product’s life. In other words, while some elements of creating the shoe emit carbon, others capture carbon, bringing the shoe to net zero. Following its reveal at the Global Fashion Summit, Allbirds will be showcasing the M0.0NSHOT exclusively at Selfridges in London at a carbon-themed pop-up from 3rd July - 6th August.

The shoe will launch commercially in Spring 2024. Explore further at Allbirds.
