Reebok x IDEA Reworks the Club C 85 With a Hidden Glow
Reebok has teamed up with London-based publishing and design studio IDEA for a considered reworking of the Club C 85 — one that leaves the classic silhouette largely intact while shifting the focus to the details.
The Reebok x IDEA Club C 85 uses a combination of premium suede and canvas across the upper, with glow-in-the-dark detailing, custom tongue labels and heel branding. A terry-lined interior, custom footbed, tonal laces, an additional lace option and bespoke packaging complete the collaboration.
The approach makes sense for IDEA, which since 2011 has built its reputation around the careful editing and recontextualising of vintage catalogues, advertising, sports memorabilia and printed ephemera. Rather than redesigning the Club C for the sake of it, the studio has treated it as an archival object worth examining more closely.
“Some designs never need replacing, rebooting or re-inventing,” said IDEA co-founder David Owen. “Because we approached this collaboration as an homage, we looked for the most perfect shoe and found it in the Club C.”
The Reebok x IDEA Club C 85 launched at Dover Street Market in Tokyo on August 6, New York on August 7, and Los Angeles and London on August 8. Available now via Reebok.com and selected retailers. It is available in unisex sizing for $130 / £130 / €140.
