Converse x Tyler, The Creator Reinvents the Pro Leather for a New Era

Converse has never struggled to find relevance beyond the basketball court. Few silhouettes prove that better than the Pro Leather, the 1976 icon that moved effortlessly from hardwood staple to streetwear fixture. Now, Tyler, The Creator is giving it another chapter through the latest Converse 1908 collection, reworking the classic with the kind of exaggerated proportions that feel entirely in step with contemporary menswear.

The Converse 1908 programme has become the creative playground where archive design meets modern experimentation. Rather than simply reissuing classics, Tyler continues to push Converse's heritage into unexpected territory, drawing inspiration from the DIY attitude of b-boy culture and the bootleg customisers who reshaped trainers long before collaborations became marketing gold.

The new Converse 1908 Pro Leather takes that philosophy literally. Familiar details remain, but almost everything has been dialled up. The toe box is noticeably wider, the eyelet rows oversized, the laces deliberately chunky and an embossed Star motif stretches across the toe cap. Together, they create a silhouette that feels substantial without losing sight of the original's identity.

Premium full-grain leather gives the trainer a more elevated finish, while archival details including the perforated upper, heel panel and signature Star Chevron ensure it still feels unmistakably like a Pro Leather. Debossed GOLF le FLEUR* branding on the tongue and lateral side completes the design, linking the shoe to Tyler's ever-expanding creative universe. It launches in two colourways: crisp White and deep Amazon green.

Alongside the headline release, Converse also introduces leather versions of the 1908 Jogger. Previously offered in suede and nylon constructions, the streamlined runner now arrives in understated black and white leather editions. The cleaner execution gives the low-profile silhouette a more refined feel, making it an easy addition to a modern wardrobe that favours understated luxury over overt branding.

The wider Converse 1908 initiative continues to demonstrate how a heritage sportswear brand can revisit more than a century of design history without becoming trapped by nostalgia. Instead of treating the archive as something untouchable, Tyler uses it as raw material, reshaping familiar silhouettes into something that feels genuinely contemporary.

The Converse 1908 Pro Leather (£90) and Converse 1908 Jogger Leather (£90) are available now via Converse and GOLF le FLEUR*.
