In the studio with Hormazd Narielwalla

Born in Mumbai, artist Hormazd Narielwalla came to the UK in 2003. Originally trained as a fashion designer and stylist, he completed a PHD in Fine Arts at the University Arts London in 2014 and has shown his work in exhibitions curated by the Crafts Council, the Hepworth Wakefield Museum, the Migration Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, amongst others. He works across a number of artistic disciplines including printmaking, sculpture and artist’s books but he is best known for his intricate paper collages and assemblages, which are originated on the surfaces of antique, vintage and bespoke tailoring patterns. In May 2023 his King and Crown exhibit saw flags of his work adorn the exterior of 45 Park Lane hotel in London. Soon after he was commissioned to create a bespoke work on his interpretation of “the rakish gent” which is exhibited within these pages for the first time.
