Marcelo Burlon AW20

Words - Taj Hayer

The clashing of contrasting elements was an integral takeaway from the Marcelo Burlon AW20 collection, unveiled as part of Milan Fashion Week.

Whilst shapes remained practical and wearable, and pieces were designed to perform, surfaces were visually arresting, being printed, treated, embroidered and patched. Distortion was a key motif, with warped flowers created by Mirko Borsche, liquified over pattersm which created a psychedelic effect on aviator jackets, jacquard knits, shirts and shorts. Pockets were applied onto pieces in a glitched fashion to create further contrast and even more distortion. With the bolder customer in mind, reflective down jackets and Swarovski covered single-breasted blazers flashed, especially when the colour palette was a muted mix of brown, stone and khaki.
