How to make the dog walk the highlight of your day

Words and styling - Taj Hayer

Illustration - Phil Arthur

With self-isolation becoming the new norm, we all find ourselves searching for new ways to find rays of sunshine. Whilst previously that might have been going out or drinks with friends, maybe now, the humble dog walk should be our new highlight.

Not only does it combine your one form of daily exercise with your dog’s need for a daily stretch and sun, but it can also be an excuse to get dressed (at all in the case of some). Functionality should be at the core, seeing as the weather in the UK can often be inclement. Start with a great, practical jacket. Nike’s collaboration with Undercover (available at Mr Porter) is the perfect mix of sport and design with the heavy parka boasting a quilted liner that can be detached and worn alone. The bold red makes it a real style statement so easy to be worn with basics like comfy joggers from Topman, because wearing jeans is just too much hard work these days, and the wear all weekend style sweatshirt from Arket, made from a French Terry cloth.

Keeping functionality at the forefront, steer clear of mud sneakers by wearing a pair of Hunter ankle boots instead. Hunter have taken the cool aesthetic of a Chelsea boot and made it appropriate for a walk in the country. For a final touch of high fashion, forget about styling your hair and cover your do in an effortlessly cool Balenciaga baseball cap from Matches Fashion
