Why a belted overcoat is your best friend this season

It is officially overcoat season. Light winds have turned to tornadoes, intermittent showers have turned to constant rain and a chill is now ice cold. As you ponder which coat you should buy to help you battle the elements, we make a case fore the belted overcoat.

When it comes to picking a winter coat, its important to think about one that will go with everything. A wise choice would be this design from Maison Kitsune at Mr Porter. Cut from sustainable wool-blend, it boasts a relaxed fit, accentuated with wide lapels, a double-breasted front which can be altered with the belt. The soft grey hue makes it a perfect choice for dressing up with tailoring or dressing down with smart denim and knitwear.

As we are fans of the dressed down look, we opted to style the coat with a classic roll-neck in black from Arket and charcoal pinstripe joggers from Reiss. Boots over sneakers makes more sense for winter, so look to COS for an impressive range of robust winter footwear including these minimalist zipped ankle boots. Whilst the high street has an amazing range of basics, we can’t help but go designer for accessories. There are few tote bags around that can compete with Bottega Veneta’s canvas design, currently available at Matches Fashion
