Jaeger-LeCoultre Gives the Master Ultra Thin a Copper-Dial Refresh
Jaeger-LeCoultre has introduced a new dial treatment for two of its most recognisable dress watches — the Master Ultra Thin Date and the Master Ultra Thin Moon — offering a contemporary update without disturbing the collection’s quietly confident aesthetic. The headline is the dial: a grained copper tone that sits somewhere between warm metallic and soft powder, shifting subtly with the light and adding a modern edge to a classic silhouette.
Housed in a polished 39mm stainless-steel case, both models follow the Master Ultra Thin playbook: slim profile, long lugs, clean lines and a design language rooted in the Maison’s legacy of ultra-thin watchmaking. It’s the kind of watch you’d wear with tailoring, but one that also plays nicely with pared-back weekend fits — the appeal lies in its restraint.
The copper dial sets the stage for elongated trapezoid indices and faceted Dauphine hands, each catching light differently thanks to a mix of brushed and polished surfaces. At 6 o’clock, the complication defines the character of each model. The Master Ultra Thin Date keeps things minimal with a crisp white date window framed by the copper dial. The Master Ultra Thin Moon leans more romantic, pairing a silver moon and deep blue sky with a perimeter date track.
Inside, both watches run on the brand’s long-established in-house calibres. The Master Ultra Thin Date uses Calibre 899, while Calibre 925 powers the moon phase model — both movements offering a 70-hour power reserve and visible through a sapphire case-back. The view is classic JLC: Geneva stripes, bevelled edges, blued screws and an open-worked rose-gold rotor. Before leaving the Manufacture, each piece passes JLC’s 1000-hour testing regime, which remains one of the industry’s more rigorous standards.
A new brown alligator strap completes the update and features an easy-change system for quick swaps. It’s subtle, but then the Master Ultra Thin has always been about refinement rather than reinvention. Here, the copper dial simply gives the familiar a fresh point of view — a quiet flex for those who appreciate the details.
