For the unfamiliar, Flavin’s works centred around the use of commercially available fluorescent lamps to create what he called “situations” of colour and light. During his most prolific years of the Sixties to Eighties he explored numerous concepts utilising fluorescent light and the exhibition features key pieces from this period, For the first time in Paris, an untitled barrier will be on show, which cuts across the expanse of the gallery and dramatically bathes the space in blue and red fluorescent light. The barriers were a major feature of minimalist and conceptual art and are amongst the first examples of installation art. Key works that explore the subtle possibilities offered by variations of white florescent light are also a major highlight of the exhibition.
