Dunhill SS19

Words - Elliot Whitelaw

Dunhill London debuted its range for SS19 at Paris Men’s Fashion Week with the show taking place on a lovely Summer’s day; the perfect platform for the elegant and graceful spring collection.

The collection consists of unorthodox interpretations of modern menswear, featuring slight adaptions to classic bomber jackets, shirts and trousers. The Creative Director of Dunhill, Mark Weston said in a recent interview that, “I wanted to subvert the notion of classic menswear clothing codes in a subtle way.”

Released next year, the collection centres itself on being fashionable yet functional. And the idea that Weston perceived, is executed perfectly by the choice of models used on the runway and the clothes they are wearing, featuring numerous casual suits and casual wear. However, the vision of subverting such notions surrounding modern menswear is challenged by the heavier looking leather vests, black trench coats and light blue shirts, all of which look like they were taken from a futuristic sci-fi movie, embodying the style that Watson wanted his collection to represent perfectly.

One aspect that the brand focuses on is the merging of different styles of British subcultures, combining different facets of clothing that are often perceived to belong to one subculture with another, and thus creating something out of the ordinary.

The collection utilises the colour black heavily, with many of the designs either being fully black, or heavily incorporating it. The great thing about this is how versatile is, not simply just for creating an outfit, but the situations that you can wear it in.

Needless to say, the entire collection is one that is best seen rather than described. Dunhill have executed their vision perfectly, allowing for an unorthodox, yet functional and fashionable collection.
