Slip Into Summer: Berluti’s L’Escale Loafer Lands
You could argue that the summer loafer has been done to death. But Berluti’s latest entry into the genre, L’Escale, turns that conversation on its head with one quiet flex: genuine craft. This is less about a lazy seasonal slip-on and more about heritage disguised as ease.
Inspired by the piedàterre — that laid-back Venetian velvet slipper — L’Escale is Berluti’s answer to sun-soaked, sockless days that still require polish. Think yacht-ready, Amalfi-bound nonchalance, with the kind of quiet luxury that doesn’t need shouting.
The shoe arrives with two key attributes. First, it’s designed to be worn either with the heel up or down, slipper-style, giving it that elusive ‘I-just-threw-these-on’ energy. Second, it’s made from a newly developed goat leather, tanned specifically to hold its shape with or without structure — a move that nods to the Maison’s bootmaking pedigree, even in this more relaxed form.
Styling is classic Berluti: understated on the surface, deeply intentional underneath. Hand-sewn moccasin stitching, contrast linings (a subtle nod to the Andy loafer), and the house’s Scritto motif embossed on the sole signal it’s not just another beach loafer. It’s the sort of detail a discerning eye will clock immediately, and one that elevates L’Escale from holiday wear to wardrobe staple.
Available in-store and online from April 2025, this is Berluti doing summer its own way — refined, relaxed, and unmistakably European.
Because sometimes, less structure says more.
