Allbirds Steps Into the Rain With Its First Waterproof Collection

2 min read

For a brand that built its reputation on minimalism and sustainability, Allbirds has always been more about evolution than reinvention. Now, it’s turning its attention to a particularly British problem: rain. The San Francisco-based label has unveiled its first-ever Waterproof Collection, designed to keep feet dry without compromising on comfort or conscience.

Allbirds has long been the go-to for those who like their footwear clean, comfortable, and quietly stylish. But this collection feels like a natural next step — one made for commutes that involve puddles, park walks that turn to mud, and weekends that don’t always go to plan. Each shoe in the lineup is crafted from the brand’s signature Merino wool, a material prized for its softness, thermoregulation, and durability. Here, it’s been reimagined for the elements.

The secret weapon is C-Zero DWR, a PFAS-free water-repellent treatment that ditches harmful chemicals while maintaining serious performance credentials. It’s waterproofing, the sustainable way — proving that function and responsibility don’t have to be mutually exclusive.

The collection includes three silhouettes: the Wool Cruiser Waterproof (£125), the Wool Runner NZ Waterproof(£125), and the Wool Runner NZ Mid Waterproof (£140). Each takes a slightly different approach to all-weather wear. The Cruiser leans toward casual weekends and off-duty looks; the Runner NZ channels a cleaner, sportier vibe; and the Mid bridges the gap between trainer and boot — ideal for those who refuse to give up style when the forecast turns grim.

Underneath the minimalist design are some serious upgrades. A breathable waterproof membrane keeps things dry, while recycled polyester reinforcements protect high-impact areas. The natural rubber blend outsole delivers grip and traction, and inside, the SweetFoam® midsole and Featherbed™ insole make each step feel effortless.

It’s a natural evolution from Allbirds’ Mizzle range, which introduced water-resistant styles to London’s famously damp streets a few years back. But this collection raises the bar — fully waterproof, quietly premium, and built for British weather in every sense.

Available now at allbirds.co.uk, this is the kind of footwear made for real life — the 9-to-5 commute, the coffee run, the countryside detour — all done the Allbirds way
