RIVER ISLAND CHRISTMAS 2017
With 2017 thus far being another fantastic year for men’s fashion and style, its exciting to know that the better half of the year with festivities and party season is yet to fall upon us. So far we have warmly accepted the introduction of stripes, squares and checks of all sizes, as well as a refreshed neutral style colour pallet into our wardrobes with the likes of stone, off-whites, beige etc, seen within a lot of designer’s collections, from luxury to high street.
The introduction of River Island’s Christmas collection amalgamates the trends and new fusions we have seen and accepted on runways as well as in stores. The Christmas collection this year isn’t one of jumpers and hats that scream festivity. It is one which boasts subtle and muted tones (easy on the eyes and easily blended into an every day outfit) as well as relaxed feel to the pieces allowing the mass-appeasing ‘dress up or dress down’ approach.
The practical yet incredibly stylish collection clearly radiates a lot of thought and effort behind the piece’s appeal for appeasing the most stylish of men. Once again what separates this collection to all else is the emphasis on unique colour, sharp lined tailoring (referencing to a timeless 40’s style) and the incorporation of premium fabric. The collection covers a broad spectrum of style and pieces that can be assembled together or worn as statements.
‘Prep’ introduces a minimal design with muted colours. The likes of classic A/W tones such as deep blues, burgundy, teals are included in this collections deluxe pallet. The classics such as overcoats, flat washed denim and chequered shirts are presented in varying textures and fabrics with the match of evidently sharp tailoring to make them stand out. The cold weather essentials such as striped cardigans, white trainers and varsity hoodie are also included in this collections to enable a classic preppy aesthetic look.
The ‘Manhattan’ is River Island’s twist on the classic formal styling. A beautiful nod to the timeless 40’s inspired wardrobe that includes remodelled sharp tailoring with single, and now the more popular double breasted suits. Once more apart from the cut and fabric of these pieces, the collection has opted for eye pleasing neutrals such as grey and brown. The more elegant pieces to the Christmas collection also include wool Crombie coats, oversized belts and cropped tailored trousers for elegance and effortless style.
The ‘Luxe’ focuses more on premium tailoring and can be seen as the more formal, evening party wear. The look that the Luxe range provides very much offsets with the technical hardware and finish of the collections more urban pieces. Keeping within the theme is a slight gear towards darker plush tones of gold, burgundy and midnight blue. Items in this range include luxurious velvet blazers, fine knits and printed blazers, perfect to make heads at a dinner party or formal occasion around the festive times.
Once again it is pleasing to see that high street brands such as River Island are taking the items that are ingrained within our staple wardrobes and re-inventing them so subtly so they can attract the statement piece attention or pass as a casually attractive winter look.
