LOOK OF THE WEEK
THE STATEMENT COAT
Have you ever seen a statement coat, secretly loved it, but been too scared to make the purchase? Maybe due to fear of the amount of wear (or lack thereof) you would get out of it? Or indeed what you could wear it with? Well, this week we show you how to make the most out of your investment outerwear.
There is no doubt (as far as we at The Rakish Gent are concerned) that this Dries Van Noten coat is a work of art. In fact, we may go as far as to say that nearly everything that the house produces each season would not look out of place in an art gallery. This specific piece, available at Mr Porter is all the more outstanding, owing to its intricate metallic and striped grosgrain appliqués and details inspired by military regalia. On first look, it may appear to be too much of a statement to wear out and about but this is certainly not the case.
The double-breasted, slim fitting design looks incredible over a slim rollneck, such as this ribbed cotton and lightweight design from Haider Ackermann. Keeping things tonally on trend and masculine, we went from navy and black to grey and opted to dress the rakish gent in tapered, charcoal trousers from AMI at FarFetch. As we all know, these simple pieces are incredibly versatile and when worn together only serve to heighten how versatile the coat can be. Finish the look off with these Grenson flatform brogues, although any pair of crisp white sneakers would work just as well.
This week, we had the immense pleasure of working with Giovanni Paolini. Giovanni is a designer and fashion illustrator based in London. After graduating at the London College of Fashion, he splits his time between freelance design work and illustration concentrating on menswear and haute couture illustration. You can find out much more about him on his website and on Instagram.
