- BRAND FOCUS -
ADA & NIK
In the first in the series of a new feature, we delve a little deeper into some of our favourite brands. In a typically rakish fashion, we have also worked with some major talent to create images that show what these brands mean to us. The first label to come under our focus is the brilliant ADA + NIK.
Launched just last year, the brand is the coming together of the talented Ada Zanditon and the charismatic Nik Thakkar. Together they have a combined 15 years of experience, at fashion houses including Gaultier and Alexander McQueen. Produced in East London, the first collection was immediately picked up by the fashion press who were taken in by the dark tone of the collection, the bold design details and the fact that each piece was innovative and wearable at the same time.
For S/S ’15, ADA + NIK showcased their Carpe Noctem collection. It comprised of entirely black, white and metallic silver pieces, all of which had unique design details whether that be a quilted geometric pattern adorning a vest and joggers, or the mesh panels that feature on the shorts. Showing skills outside the design studio, the brand also released a short film to celebrate the collection. The film shows just how wearable the pieces are and how much work has gone into creating a collection that is unique from its contemporaries. The AW15 show, which took place during LC:M in January, continued in the same vein – clothes that belong in the streets and feature intelligent innovative materials and design. In the three collections that they have presented to date, they have shown an ability to work with the colour black and always make it look interesting, desirable and the only colour that you want to be wearing.
To show off how we interpret the Greco Roman/ punk aesthetic of the brand we turned to talented illustrator Roberto Sanchez. A freelance illustrator based in Mexico, his work has a hyper-geometric approach which manages to keep all the details intact. Besides illustrating he works on live sketches at fashion shows and editorial and design projects. We gave Roberto the task of illustrating three looks from the brand that best show off the S/S 15 collection. Look One comprises a mesh sleeve hoodie, leather jacket and leather and mesh shorts, all of which are available at ODD. Look Two featured only those achingly cool geometric print trousers at FarFetch, whilst the third and final look was made up of the matching vest with those leather and mesh shorts (again at FarFetch).
We feel that Roberto perfectly captures the street smart, rebellious tone of the brand which oozes masculinity.
