BEN SHERMAN A/W '14
Under the tagline “a heritage of modernism” Ben Sherman's new collection embodies what the brand is all about – keeping faithful to classic menswear whilst also moving fashion forward by injecting modern twists and details into pieces.
For A/W '14 the British brand has created one of its strongest collections to date. As you would expect for a winter timed range, outerwear is key. Here, the offerings come in the form of the iconic Harrington jacket with retro twists, short peacoats and a rather fetching full length fur trimmed parka (you will not regret it when the snow comes, and come, it undoubtedly will).
That nod to the past is well played here – with hints at nostalgia coming via subtle but bright paisley on the aforementioned Harrington, as well as appearing on shirting. Whilst I love the pink, there is no doubt that the orange paisley design would look great when worn with a simple dark navy suit.
The collection also features all of the necessary menswear staples – sweaters (key trend for the season) with the grey paisley circular logo being my pick, as well as great sweaters, shirts and shoes. There is also a slim fit tuxedo for that all important Christmas party.
If I were held at gun point and forced to pick one item to take away, I would in a heartbeat, opt for the classic sand trench. Great length, great fit and it will never not be stylish.
